The MSJC women's soccer team picked up a road win on Friday at Rio Hondo and earned a draw with Santiago Canyon at home Tuesday evening.
The Eagles picked up a 1-0 win over Rio Hondo Friday in Whittier. Helen Elizalde scored the game's only goal in the 22nd minute to give MSJC the victory.
Tuesday at HCN Bank Stadium the Eagles fell behind Santiago Canyon 2-0 in the first half, before storming back to take the lead 3-2 and eventually earning a 3-3 draw. The Hawks first two goals came in the 16th and 22nd minutes, before the Eagles responded. In the 23rd minute MSJC got on the board when Elizalde scored off a corner kick helper by Nathali Gasca and then ten minutes later Haylee Chilton scored unassisted to even the match at 2-2 going into halftime. The Eagles took their first lead of the day in the 59th minute when Lorena Gonzalez took advantage of a penalty kick opportunity knocking it into the back of the net to make the score 3-2. Santiago Canyon would score the equalizer in the 70th minute for the 3-3 tie. Ashlyn Goade played all 90 minutes in goal for MSJC making 5 saves.
The Eagles now stand at 4-2-3 on the season and will travel to Cerritos for a 3 pm match on Friday. Next week MSJC will host a pair of home matches as they take on El Camino Tuesday October 1st at 3 pm and then begin play in the Inland Empire Athletic Conference Friday October 4th when they play College of the Desert at 4 pm. Both games next week are at HCN Bank Stadium in Menifee.
