
The Chargers Advance to the State Finals for Second Consecutive Year
SARATOGA, CA – Cypress Softball is set to defend their State Championship title as they advance to the 3C2A State Finals for the second year in a row. The defending State Champions will face their district rivals, the Fullerton College Hornets, in what promises to be a thrilling showdown.

In the first game of the day against Mt. San Antonio College, the Chargers displayed their dominance at the start of the game with a commanding 8-0 lead in the first inning. The highlight of the inning was Mikala Jacobsen's three-run homer to left field, which brought in Ashlynn Ortiz and Kimberley MacPherson. Cypress ended the Mounties season with a 10-0 mercy shutout victory to advance in the tournament.
Following their victory over Mt. San Antonio, the Chargers faced San Joaquin Delta College for a second time in the semi-final round. Despite a loss in their previous encounter, the Chargers showed resilience, securing a dramatic walk-off win to advance to the State Finals. In the first inning, San Joaquin Delta singled through the left side for an early lead, 1-0. In the second inning, Lizbeth Gomez reached first on a throwing error, allowing Kimberley MacPherson to score an unearned run and tie the game at 1-1. In the fifth inning, Jaylene Duarte singled up the middle, scoring Nanea Kyle to give Cypress a 2-1 lead. San Joaquin Delta tied the game again in the seventh inning in hopes to keep their run alive. However, the Chargers secured the win in dramatic fashion in the bottom of the seventh inning when Julia Doan doubled, bringing in Mikala Jacobsen for the walk-off win and a final score of 3-2.
UP NEXT: The State Championship will take place at West Valley College on Sunday, May 19, with the first game starting at 12:00 PM and the second game, if necessary, at 3:00 PM. The Chargers will need to win two games against the Fullerton College Hornets to defend their State Title.
