Riverside Keeps IVC in Check
Riverside City College dominated a 7-2 victory over Irvine Valley College Thursday afternoon, securing the Orange Empire Conference series win.
The Tigers improve to 21-9 overall and 6-5 in conference, while the Lasers drop to 10-20 on the year, 1-10 in the OEC.
Ryan Jenkins had a stellar game on the mound, tossing seven scoreless innings with just one hit and eight strikeouts.
Riverside wasted little time, putting two runs up in the bottom of the first. Parker Sobiesiak (2-for-4, two runs, one RBI) led things off with an infield single before two consecutive hit by pitches loaded the bases. Ian Nguyen and Dylan Nelson (1-for-2, one run, one RBI) had back-to-back sacrifice flies to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead early.
The Tigers tacked on two more runs in the second and third, before capping the scoring in the bottom of the fifth after Marcus Moyer (2-for-2, one run, two RBIs) knocked an RBI single to all but seal the 7-2 victory.
Riverside looks to grab the series sweep on Saturday, heading back to IVC for a 12 p.m. contest.
