TAFT, CA – Throughout scrimmages and official games, the one thing that the Lady Cougars Basketball Team of Taft College can do is: bounce back in statement fashion. Taft defeated Compton College on Saturday afternoon defeating the Tartans 82-46.
Taft won every quarter, outscoring Compton 17-5, 18-12, 24-16 and 23-13. The Cougars preyed on their opponents by dominating every statistical category. TC were 100% from the foul line going 8-8, outscored Compton 34-2 in transition points, 34-11 points off turnovers, second chance points 10-3, points in the paint 44-8, 16-4 in assists, 15-10 in deflections, 19-5 in steals, and outrebounded them 57-28.
"It was a much-needed win as we still feel the pain of a game stolen from us when we traveled to Cerritos College. So we were on the hunt, and the hunt showed in dominant fashion. Every single player scored and contributed in a way I know we are capable of, and the thrill of the hunt is on," said Taft Head Women's Basketball Coach Romeo Lagmay, Jr.
Freshman sensation Madyn Kassatly recorded another double double scoring a team high 17 points and grabbing 10 boards, while collecting 3 steals. Sophomore Alyah Blackwater had her career high, and first double double, of 14 points and game high of 12 rebounds, and 4 steals. Freshman standout Ella Waufle scored 13 points, 3 steals and a game high of 5 assists. Freshman Faith Wilson came off the bench to contribute a career-high 12 points and collected 2 steals. Sophomore Kahree Horton and Amaya Payne scored 10 points apiece. That was Horton's career high, while having 3 steals. Payne also had a double double adding 10 rebounds to her stat line.
Taft will travel to San Bernadino Valley College Wednesday, November 27 before the Thanksgiving Break, and will return to home action December 4 (Las Positas College), December 7 (Los Medanos College), December 9 (Barstow College), and December 11 (Copper Mountain College).
