Women's Basketball Opens Season with Solid Win

The San Diego Mesa College women's basketball team kicked off their 2024-25 season with a solid 67-49 victory over Cerritos College at the Aviary Gymnasium on Saturday, November 2nd.

Sophomore Kendal Alloway and freshman Stevie Lundquist led the Olympians' offensive charge, each scoring 15 points. Alloway also contributed 9 rebounds (3 offensive), 1 assist, and 1 block. Lindquist, the freshman standout from Mendocino, added nine rebounds to her much-anticipated debut.

The game was tightly contested in the first half, with the score tied at 14 after the first quarter and Cerritos trailing by only four at halftime. However, Mesa dominating the boards proved to be the difference-maker. The Olympians outrebounded the Falcons  57-27, which led to a 13-0 advantage in second-chance points. Mesa also flexed their muscles in the paint, scoring 22 points in the key.

Rayleen Moreno also impressed with 11 points, nine rebounds, two steals, and one block. Guard Christina Bowen also made key contributions, scoring 10 points, along with one block and two defensive rebounds.

The Olympians will host Santa Monica College in their home opener on Thursday, November 7th. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
