Chargers Triumph in Last-Minute Thriller, Set to Face Defending Champs in Quarterfinals
COSTA MESA, CA - The No. 8 Cypress Chargers Men's Water Polo team clinched a nail-biting 13-12 victory over the No. 9 Grossmont Griffins in the opening round of the 3C2A SoCal Regionals. With this win, the Chargers advance to the quarterfinals, where they will face off against the defending champions, Golden West Rustlers, on Friday, November 15 at 2:00 pm.
The game was tightly contested from the start, with Grossmont holding a 3-2 lead at the end of the first period and maintaining a narrow 7-6 edge at halftime. By the end of the third period, the score was locked at 8-8, setting up a dramatic final quarter.
In the closing moments, Wes Brazada emerged as the hero for Cypress, scoring the winning goal in the final minute. Kai Banua's crucial steal and pinpoint pass set up Brazada's game-winning shot, sealing the Chargers' thrilling 13-12 win. Porter Rosenlof was instrumental throughout, contributing four goals and five assists to keep Cypress competitive in this intense matchup.
