Continuing one of their most memorable seasons in a long time, the Cerritos College volleyball team won their 13th match in a row, as they swept visiting Compton College, 25-2, 25-11, 25-6 on Friday night. The sweep was also the 15th of the season for the Falcons (17-2, 6-0), who are ranked #11 in the state and #6 in Southern California. Earlier in the season, Cerritos recorded the biggest win in the career of head coach Kari Hemmerling when they defeated previously undefeated Long Beach City College. The two teams will meet up in Long Beach next Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. with a share of the South Coast Conference championship on the line. The Vikings (16-1, 5-1) are ranked #6 in the state and #4 in SoCal.

The Falcons weren't tested at all by the Lady Tartars, as they dispatched them in 64 minutes. Cerritos scored points in bunches, while Compton had very little in the way of resistance against the Falcons. As a team, Cerritos hit an impressive .476 with just six errors all night.

The bench was emptied, as 15 players saw action. Those who made the most of their chances included sophomore libero Herlinda Casanova (St. Joseph HS/Rio Hondo College), who had a team-high 11 digs, with freshman Josie Navarro (Sierra Vista HS) recording three kills and Juliette Casillas (La Serna HS) adding a pair of kills and four digs.

The usually suspects also delivered for the Falcons, with sophomore Monserrat Rodriguez (Gahr HS/Long Beach City College) recording 13 kills in 16 attempts with no errors, along with five digs, with sophomore Sydney May (Los Alamitos HS/UC Santa Cruz) producing eight kills. Sophomore Lillianna Peterson (California HS) contributed six kills, while sophomores Jasmine Soto-Castro (Schurr HS) and Brisa Cortez (Schurr HS) combined for eight kills in 16 attempts.
