Citrus College Women's Soccer hosted Santa Monica College for a conference game on Tuesday night, November 5th, ending in a 1-1 tie.

Citrus College moves to 11-3-2 overall and 7-3-1 in conference games on the season while Santa Monica College goes to 13-3-2 overall and 8-1-2 in conference games.

The Owls and Corsairs battled in a rematch from earlier this season where Citrus earned a 2-1 win in Santa Monica on October 11th. With both teams competing atop the Western State-South conference ranks, the tensions were high from the first whistle. Santa Monica College struck first with a goal in the 9th minute which put them up 1-0.

Shortly after going down 1-0 the Owls responded when Andrea Meza drew a free kick while attacking up the left side of the 18-yard box. Julianna Gasca stepped up to take the free kick which was a perfectly lobbed cross that Megan Sewell charged and headed into the back of the Corsairs net in the 25th minute. The score remained 1-1 at halftime and both teams seemed eager to get back on the field for the second half to compete again.

The second half was hard-fought, the Owls and Corsairs both had chances to score but goalies on both sides were playing at an elite level, Liliana Miramontes recorded seven saves on the eight shots that she faced.

The Owls were led by Megan Sewell, who made key defensive plays and scored the equalizing goal. Aubrianna Mejia took three shots, while Emily Cherry and Sarah Nelson each took one shot.

Citrus College will travel to West LA College for a conference matchup tomorrow, Friday, November 8th at 3:00 p.m.
