Hosting Compton Compton College on Wednesday in their South Coast Conference South Division opener, the Cerritos College women's basketball team recorded a 58-30 win. The Falcons (6-12, 1-0) will now host Los Angeles Harbor College in another divisional game at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.

Now playing with just five players after another slew of injuries, Cerritos started slow the first few minutes before scoring nine straight points to open a 9-2 lead in the first quarter. Three consecutive baskets from sophomore Francine Carrillo (Cerritos HS) helped the Falcons establish a 21-11 lead, which was followed by a four-point play from Jayden Estrada (Anaheim HS) to make it 25-11 in the second quarter. Estrada and freshman Jazzmin Briggs (Lakewood HS) each added baskets late in the first half to open a convincing 29-11 advantage and took a 35-14 lead into halftime.

Freshman Mia Avalos (Pioneer HS) opened the second half with a three-pointer and when Estrada knocked down a pair of free throws late in the quarter, the Falcons were cruising with a 47-19 lead. Avalos then capped off the game with a three-pointer and finished with a season-high 19 points, which included five three-pointers and six rebounds.

Four of the five players scored in double-figures, as Estrada (nine assists, two steals), Carrillo (12 rebounds, six steals, four assists) and Briggs (15 rebounds) all scored 12 points in the win.
