
TAFT, CA – It came down to the wire on Tuesday, as Taft College grabbed the victory in walk-off fashion, 4-3, over Cerro Coso Community College Coyotes. The game was tied at three in the bottom of the eighth when an error scored one run.
Cerro Coso Coyotes were the first to get on the board in the first when L Rice homered to center field, scoring two runs.
An error extended the Cerro Coso Coyotes lead to 3-0 in the top of the third inning.
Hadlie Wilson doubled down the left field line, which helped the Taft Cougars tie the game at three in the bottom of the fourth.
Ava Heitman earned the win for Cougars. The righty surrendered six hits and three runs (two earned) over eight innings, striking out five and walking two. E Madriel took the loss for Cerro Coso. The hurler went seven innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits, striking out four and walking seven.
Laie Keahi, Mischa Mott, Heitman, and Wilson each collected one hit for the Cougars. Keahi and Wilson each drove in one run for Taft. Kate Moore paced the Cougars with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, piling up eight walks for the game. Moore stole three bases. TC ran wild on the base paths, accumulating five stolen bases for the game.
Rice provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led the Coyotes with two runs batted in. The center fielder went 2-for-4 on the day. Leadoff hitter Madriel led Cerro Coso with three hits in four at bats. Madriel stole two bases. The Coyotes stole three bases in the game.
