In singles play #1, Sydney Bush had a dramatic three-set victory, winning 6-4, 1-6, 11-9 in the third set tiebreak. After splitting the first two sets, Bush Trailed 1-7 in the tiebreak but survived 2 match points before earning the 11-9 third set and match win. #2 Padilla lost 4-6, 3-6, #3 Ortega lost 0-6, 0-6, #4 Avina lost 2-6, 2-6, #5 Lopez lost 1-6, 4-6, and #6 Hufford lost 0-6, 0-6.
In doubles play, #1 Sydney Bush and Nicole Padilla lost 1-8, #2 Jocelyn Ortega/Amber Hufford lost 0-8, and #3 Arianett Avina/Emily Lopez won 8-5, earning the only doubles point for the Marauders.
"I'm very pleased with Sydney's win. She demonstrated everything we are about as a program as she absolutely never gave up and continued to fight one point at a time," Coach Webb stated. "Ari and Emily have been right on the verge of a breakthrough, and today they got there. Overall, we will continue to keep working hard to improve our overall performance," he added.
After the loss to Ventura, AVC hosted Orange Coast College in another match that didn't go their way with a 9-0 loss. They are now 2-7 overall and 0-4 in Western State Conference play. Next up, they are on the road at Santa Barbara before returning home to face Glendale in a conference match on Thursday, February 9, at 2:00 PM.
