No. 30 Comets Dominate San Diego Miramar, Stay Perfect in Conference Play
SAN MARCOS, CA (1/8/2025) -- The No. 30 ranked Palomar College men's basketball team extended their conference winning streak to 4-0 with an emphatic 80-61 victory over San Diego Miramar College on Wednesday night at the Dome. The win marked a milestone for head coach Ivan Patterson, as it was his first triumph over the Jets during his tenure with the Comets.
Palomar's balanced attack and sharp shooting were on full display, with five players scoring in double figures. Matin Madadkar led the way with 15 points, including a 4-for-6 performance at the free-throw line, while adding three rebounds and three assists. Isaiah Tolmaire matched his effort with 14 points and five assists, pacing the Comet offense throughout the game.
Isaiah Pomare showcased his versatility with 14 points, knocking down three of his four attempts from beyond the arc and pulling down seven rebounds. Dylan Kail added 14 points as well, drilling four three-pointers, and Max Zylicz contributed 11 points and six rebounds, hitting three triples of his own.
The Comets shot an efficient 50.9% from the field, including an impressive 44.8% from three-point range, which proved to be the difference against a Miramar squad that struggled to find rhythm beyond the arc. Palomar's defense also shined, forcing 18 turnovers and recording 10 steals, with standout efforts from Tolmaire and Pomare, who each grabbed two steals.
Palomar took control early, building a 40-30 lead by halftime and maintaining their dominance in the second half, outscoring the Jets 40-31. The Comets capitalized on turnovers, turning them into 19 points, and pushed the pace to earn 10 fast-break points.
Now 11-5 overall and 4-0 in conference play, the Comets look to continue their momentum as they prepare for their next challenge. They will travel to Imperial Valley College on Friday night, aiming to solidify their position atop the conference standings.
