With their quick 18-2 start through the first quarter, the Cerritos College women's basketball team went on to record a 57-41 South Coast Conference South Division win over host El Camino College on Wednesday. The victory was the third in a row for the Falcons (8-12, 3-0), who will travel to Long Beach City College (13-6, 2-0) for a 5:00 p.m. game on Friday.

Cerritos held a double-digit lead the remainder of the game, with their largest lead (34-11) coming with 1:08 left in the first half after a layup from freshman Lauryn Nakamura (Cypress HS). The lead hovered around 20 points for the majority of the second half.

Poppin led all scorers with 19 points, while Nakamura used a 9-for-10 performance from the free throw line allow her to contribute 15 points, along with seven assists, four rebounds and three steals. Sophomore Francine Carrillo (Cerritos HS) hauled in 15 rebounds to go with her six points, while sophomore Jayden Estrada (Anaheim HS) added 11 points and five rebounds in a winning cause.
