In their South Coast Conference opener, the Cerritos College volleyball team swept past host Rio Hondo College, 25-7, 28-26, 25-7 on Wednesday night. The win was the third in a row for the Falcons (7-2, 1-0), who will host Mt. San Antonio College at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Cerritos opened the match by scoring multiple points without a response from the Roadrunners and won the first set quickly. They opened up the bench in the second set and pushed their way through with some late points to take a commanding two-set lead, which became a sweep after an equally fast third set.

Sophomore Sydney May (Los Alamitos HS/UC Santa Cruz) led the way with 13 kills, 17 assists and nine digs in the back row, with eight players registering at least one kill. The combination of sophomores Monserrat Rodriguez (Gahr HS/Long Beach City College) and Jasmine Soto-Castro (Schurr HS) recorded 13 kills, with sophomore setter Leeya Rubio (Schurr HS) finishing with 15 assists and four service aces.

As a team, the Falcons hit .403, their highest of the season.
