Rams officially open season with 6-2 win over Laney

SAN FRANCISCO – The 2023 City College of San Francisco baseball season got off to a solid start as the Rams opened up with a 6-2 victory over visiting Laney College on Sunday at San Francisco State University.

Opening-day starter Owen Gallegos went five strong innings, giving up a pair of runs and three hits. He struck out six and walked two in earning the win. Angel Acosta closed it out with four scoreless frames to earn the save. He fanned five batters and walked two.

CCSF put up single runs in the second, third, and fourth innings before putting game out of reach with a three-run, sixth-inning. Jerin Po'oma'a-Adaro and Jackson Wood hit RBI singles in the sixth.

Po'oma'a-Adaro (2 for 4), Eric Costa (2 for 4), and Angel Perez (2 for 3) all had two hits for the Rams.

CCSF was originally scheduled to begin the season on Friday at Contra Costa College, but was awarded a 9-0 forfeit victory over the Comets when they weren't able to compete.

San Francisco, now 2-0, and Contra Costa are scheduled to face off on Tuesday (Jan. 31) in San Pablo at 1 p.m.
