OXNARD - The Marauder women's soccer team trailed early, but responded and Mackenzie Broderick helped lead the comeback with a 3-2 victory over Oxnard College, Tuesday afternoon in Oxnard.
"In the first half we didn't come out to our full potential, but by halftime we still had the lead," Broderick said. "Going into the second half we really played well as a team. This is a good win for us. We're tired of these ties. We definitely wanted to come out with the win."
AVC's (5-2-5) last three games have all resulted in a tie and the past four of five.
Oxnard (5-5) scored at the 18-minute mark by Maria Gomez, but it didn't take long for the Marauders to respond. The Condors' lead was short-lived after Vallerie Valladares scored a goal of the assist of Jenni Bowers only two minutes later which tied the score.
Only eight minutes later, AVC took its first lead of the game when Broderick scored her 12th goal of the season which was helped by Valladares. The Marauders took a 2-1 lead into halftime.
The triangle of Bowers, Broderick and Valladares was at it again in the second half at the 45th minute when Bowers joined the goal party which came from an assist from Broderick. That gave AVC a convincing 3-1 lead. Bowers, Broderick and Valladares each had a goal and an assist.
