
SAN FRANCISCO – The City College of San Francisco women's soccer team is headed to Round 3 of the Northern California Regional Playoffs after the No. 4-seeded Rams defeated No. 20 College of the Sequoias by a final score of 2-0 in an opening-round game on Saturday.
Sydney Grundland Lanuza scored off the assist from Chelsea Sandoval in the 34th minute to give the Rams a 1-0 halftime lead. Nare Avetian secured the CCSF victory with her goal in the 50th minute thanks to the assist from Paige Pineda-Aliamus to close it out.
Bailey Perales totaled 3 saves to post the Rams' sixth shutout over the past eight games. CCSF improved to 15-2-3 overall with the win.
San Francisco will host No. 5 Fresno City College in a third-round game on Tuesday (Nov. 26) at 2 p.m. Tickets are available online in advance at the CCSF tickets page.
Fresno City cruised to a 7-0 rout of No. 12 Modesto in its second-round game on Saturday. FCC heads into Tuesday's game with an 18-2-1 overall record.
CCSF and Fresno are meeting for the first time this season. Two more wins are needed by the Rams to advance to the 3C2A State Championships on Dec. 6 & 8 at American River College in Sacramento.
