Taking on both the LA Harbor Club team and Long Beach City College on a rainy Friday at Rosie's Dog Park, the Cerritos College beach volleyball team picked up a pair of wins. The Falcons (10-5, 1-2) recorded a quick win over the LA Harbor Club team and then registered their first win over crosstown rival Long Beach City College in the program's history, 3-2. Next up for the team will be two more home court matches at Rosie's Dog Park in Long Beach against the LA Harbor Beach Club team and a South Coast Conference match against College of the Desert at 10:00 a.m. on Friday.

In the win over the Vikings, the Falcons pairing of Leeya Rubio (Schurr HS) and Josie Navarro (Sierra Vista HS) earned a convincing 21-10, 21-12 win at the top of the ladder, while Brisa Cortez (Schurr HS) and Nayeli SalasOrtiz (Schurr HS) also won in straight sets, 21-8, 21-16 to put the team in front early, 2-0.

The other three matches went to a third set, with Cerritos only needing to win one of them to secure the team victory. That came when the #4 pair of Herlinda Casanova (St. Joseph HS) and Juliette Casillas (La Serna HS) pulled out a thrilling come from behind 8-21, 25-23, 16-14, which sent the team into a celebration.

The tandem of Monserrat Rodriguez (Gahr HS) and Rosie Cazares-Gonzalez (El Rancho HS) in the #2 spot had a chance to pull out a win, but the Vikings responded the same way that the Falcons did in the #4 pair. After winning the first set, 21-18, Cerritos had two match points in the second, but could not put them away and fell, 23-25, 13-15 in the next two sets. In the #5 position, Breanna Lizarraga (Paramount HS) and Evelyn Soto-Castro (Schurr HS) took their match to a third set, but dropped a 17-21, 2116, 6-15 match.

The Falcons swept all five matches against LA Harbor in straight sets, with the only change being Abby Gutierrez (Downey HS) and Aiyana Sierra (La Mirada HS) playing in the #4 position and win, 21-7, 21-8.
