Playing one of the toughest non-conference schedules in Southern California, the Cerritos College volleyball team extended state power Moorpark College to four sets on Wednesday before falling, 18-25, 25-23, 21-25, 20-25. The Falcons (4-2) and ranked #20 in the state, will play their sixth road match of the season when they travel to Saddleback College (4-1) on Friday for a 6:00 p.m. match.

Although they had their difficulties at the net, Cerritos was able to extend many of the points with their excellent defense. For the fourth time this season, the team had over 60 digs, while they continued to show marked improvements at the net with 16 block assists. The taller Raiders (6-2) were able to take advantage of certain rotations where the Falcons had shorter players at the net.

Sophomore Jasmine Soto-Castro (Schurr HS) posted 10 kills with no attack errors, while she also finished with eight digs, while sophomore Monserrat Rodriguez (Gahr HS/Long Beach City College) also shared the team lead with 10 kills. Three players posted double-digit digs, which included sophomores Leeya Rubio (Schurr HS) and Sydney May (Los Alamitos HS/UC Santa Cruz), who also shared the setting duties. Rubio led the team with 19 assists and added 11 digs, with May finishing with 12 assists and 14 digs. Sophomore Priscilla Castillo (Schurr HS) led the back row with 15 digs and assisted on four kills.
