Women's Hoops Extends Win Streak to Seven

The MSJC women's basketball team pushed their winning streak to seven games over the weekend as they defeated both LA Trade Tech and Rio Hondo in Lancaster.

The Eagles earned a 70-64 victory over Trade Tech on Friday night in a game that was close throughout. MSJC had a balanced offensive attack as five players reached double figures. Trinity Skinner and Princess McCauley led the way with 15 points each for the Eagles. Laisha Lazu and Kohen Marshall both had double doubles for MSJC with Lazu scoring 13 and grabbing 19 rebounds while Marshall had 10 points and 13 boards, she also dished out a game high 7 assists. Drasoni Kyles added 11 points.

Saturday MSJC jumped out to a big lead through three quarters and then had to hang on to beat Rio Hondo 59-56. The Eagles built leads of 34-20 at halftime and 53-34 after the third period, but only scored 6 points over the final 10 minutes to make it close down the stretch. McCauley once again led MSJC in scoring as she poured in 19 points while Marshall added 13 and Natalie Derla had 11. Lazu dominated the glass for the second game in a row as she again pulled in 19 rebounds.

The Eagles improved to 11-3 overall with the wins. MSJC also picked up a home win back on Saturday December 21st over Copper Mountain that moved their record to 2-0 in the Inland Empire Athletic Conference. The Eagles will be back on the court on Wednesday when they host College of the Desert in a 5 pm game.
