
Cypress Chargers Women's Volleyball Goes 2-1 at LA Mission Tournament
Cypress Chargers Volleyball Secures Two Sweeps, Falls Short in Four-Set Thriller Against Santa Monica at LA Mission
LOS ANGELES, CA – The Cypress Chargers Women's Volleyball team delivered a strong performance at the LA Mission College Tournament, finishing with a 2-1 record. The Chargers showcased their dominance by sweeping San Diego Miramar and East Los Angeles College in straight sets, before falling in a tough battle to Santa Monica College in four sets.
Cypress vs. San Diego Miramar (3-0)
The Chargers opened the tournament with a commanding 3-0 victory over San Diego Miramar (25-9, 25-9, 25-7). Key players Zoe Ziegler and Amanda Kalpakoff led the offense, with Ziegler posting an impressive 14 kills and hitting .824. Kalpakoff added 7 kills and 2 aces to help secure the win. Hailey Church controlled the tempo with 23 assists, while the Chargers' defense, led by 10 blocks, kept San Diego Miramar in check throughout the match.
Cypress vs. Santa Monica College (1-3)
In a hard-fought match against Santa Monica College, the Chargers battled but fell 1-3 (27-29, 25-23, 19-25, 15-25). Despite the loss, Cypress put up a strong effort, with Ziegler once again leading the way with 9 kills and 6 blocks. Amanda Kalpakoff added 8 kills, while Sydney Jackson chipped in with 6 kills and 11 digs. The Chargers took the second set but couldn't maintain the momentum in the later stages of the match.
Cypress vs. East Los Angeles College (3-0)
Cypress bounced back in their final match of the tournament, sweeping East Los Angeles College in straight sets (25-7, 25-20, 25-12). Ziegler continued her stellar weekend with 12 kills, hitting .346, and contributing 4 blocks. Church added 17 assists and 3 service aces, while the team combined for 10 aces overall. The Chargers' defense held East LA to single-digit points in the first set, allowing Cypress to close the tournament on a high note.
With a solid 2-1 finish, the Chargers will look to build on their performance as they prepare for their next challenge.
