
The MSJC women's basketball team is coming off three tough losses to State top 10 ranked teams but will look to get back into the win column this weekend when they host the Eagle Invitational.
The Eagles won their first four games of the season and enter this weekend's event 4-3 for the year. Friday they will play Irvine Valley at 6 pm and on Saturday MSJC welcomes Skyline at 2 pm. Chaffey College will play Skyline on Friday and Irvine Valley on Saturday two hours prior to the MSJC games to round out the action.
The Eagles struggled at home on Saturday November 23rd when they lost to Mt. SAC 72-39. Kohen Marshall and Drasoni Kyles both had a team high 8 points in that contest while Vika Afungia pulled in a game high 13 rebounds. Wednesday November 27th the Eagles let a late lead slip away as they lost to Palomar on the road 81-78. MSJC led 62-49 headed into the fourth quarter but saw their lead evaporate in the final 10 minutes when the Comets outscored the Eagles 32-16. Marshall had a team high 20 points in the loss while both Afungia and Laisha Lazu recorded double doubles. Afungia finished the game with 15 points and 10 rebounds, Lazu had 13 points to go along with 10 boards. Kyles also reached double figures in scoring with 10.
After this weekend's tournament the Eagles will travel to Imperial Valley on December 11th before beginning their Inland Empire Athletic Conference schedule on December 18th at Chaffey.
