Chaffey played host to College of the Desert on Friday in a key IEAC doubleheader. The Panthers emerged victorious with a sweep, winning game one 11-0 in five innings and finishing off the Roadrunners with a 9-1 win in six innings in game two.
Sophomore center fielder Katie Avellaneda led the way in the first game, going 3-4 at the plate with a run scored and a pair of RBI. Freshman second baseman Samantha Vasquez was 2-3 with a double, 3 runs scored and 3 RBI while freshman left fielder Megan Aranda went 2-3 with an RBI.

Game two was a much tighter affair with a 1-1 deadlock heading into the bottom of the sixth inning. That's when the Chaffey bats awoke and pounded out a string of hits to score 8 runs and end the game with another mercy-rule victory.
Freshman righthander Brooklyn Fristrom pitched the final two innings, holding Desert hitless and striking out four to improve her record to 6-3 on the season. She also went 1-1 with the bat, reaching base in both of her plate appearances.
Sophomore first baseman Hailey Marquez, the 2023 IEAC Player of the Year, was 4-4 in game two, scoring a run and knocking in three.
Freshman utility Kristina Sandoval (the IEAC Player of the Week) went 2-3 with the bat, collecting an RBI and scoring two runs and Sera continued her stellar day, going 2-3 at the plate with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI.
Chaffey will resume action with 6 more home games this week, beginning with a 3:00 PM matchup on Tuesday against LA Mission.
