Through the first 83 minutes of their 2024 season opener, the Cerritos College women's soccer team was locked in a scoreless draw with visiting Norco College on Tuesday. In the 84th minute, the Falcons sent a corner kick in front of the Mustangs net, with a mad scramble ending in a goal for freshman Jessica Arroyo. Norco was able to tie the game in extra time and the teams settled for a 1-1 tie.

The team will travel north third weekend for a pair of games, with the first being a 2:00 p.m. contest at American River College on Friday.

Keeping the Falcons in the game was freshman goalkeeper Trinidad Arizmendi (El Rancho HS), who turned away six shots. She was just a minute or so away from a shutout until the Mustangs were able to score on a rebound in front of the net. After Arizmendi made the initial save on a shot by Grace Bonzoumet, the rebound went to Emily Navarro and she was able to roll a shot into the net.

Arroyo, who did not play the first half, came on in the second half and made an immediate impact. She ended up taking four of the Falcons 16 shots in the game, with two of them on goal. Five different players had at least one shot on goal for Cerritos.
