Owls Pick Up First Conference Win
Citrus College Women's Basketball earned their first conference win of the season last night as they defeated LA Valley College 81-57 at home.
Citrus College improves to 10-6 overall on the season and 1-1 in conference games, while LA Valley College goes to 6-9 overall and 0-1 in conference.
Last night's game was originally scheduled for last Wednesday, January 8th, but was postponed due the local wildfires and wind conditions.
The Owls put fourth an impressive performance, outscoring the Monarchs in every quarter, shooting 52.4% from the field and connecting on 10-of-27 three-pointers. Citrus held LA Valley to 42.1% from the field and only allowed the Monarchs to hit 4-of-17 three-pointers. The Owls outscored the Monarchs in points off turnovers (28-15), points in the paint (24-10), fastbreak points (13-6) and bench points (27-24). The Owls held their largest lead of 30 points late in the fourth quarter.
Citrus College had four players in double figures with Kristin Morella leading the way with 23 points, three assists and one rebound off the bench. Jolleen Olia scored 17 points and added five assists, a game-high five steals and four rebounds. Breanna Escobedo scored 13 points with three assists, three rebounds and one steal while Samantha Martinez had 10 points, six rebounds, three steals, one assist and one block. Maileeh Suasti led the Owls with eight rebounds, adding six points, three assists and three steals.
Citrus College will host College of the Canyons for a conference matchup tomorrow, Wednesday, January 15th at 5 p.m.
