
The #11 ranked MSJC women's basketball team fought through a tough offensive night on Monday to win their 14th straight game and remain unbeaten in Inland Empire Athletic Conference games with a 43-40 home win over Chaffey.
The Eagles struggled all night to get their offense going and didn't have a lead in the game until the 2:48 mark of the fourth quarter when Laisha Lazu made a lay-up to give MSJC a 38-37 advantage. Lazu would make two more lay-ups over the next minute and a half to push the lead to 42-37, and Princess McCauley made 1 of 2 free throws with one second left to secure the win.
Lazu was the only Eagle to reach double figures in scoring as she ended the night with 14 points, she also pulled in a game high 13 rebounds. McCauley had 9 points, Drasoni Kyles added 7 and Vika Afungia pulled in 11 rebounds.
The win makes MSJC 18-3 overall on the season and 9-0 in IEAC contests, Chaffey fell to 12-9 overall and 5-4 in league. The Eagles will travel to Joshua Tree Wednesday to take on Copper Mountain in a game scheduled for 5 pm.
