After falling behind by as many as 23 points (74-51) in the second half, the Cerritos College men's basketball team got to within nine points, but dropped a 92-81 non-conference game at Santa Ana College on Tuesday night. The Falcons (0-4), still in search of their first win of the season, will now compete in the Grossmont Tournament and open with a 6:00 p.m. game against the host Griffins on Friday.

Despite shooting 57% from the field in the first half, the Falcons still trailed the Dons (4-2), 53-37 at halftime, as Santa Ana was draining 62.5% of their field goals. The obstacle Cerritos couldn't overcome was their turnover situation, as the team committed 17 in the half and 28 on the night.

The second half saw the Dons build their lead up to as large as 23 points with 9:54 remaining in the game but Cerritos managed to hang in late. While their rally came a little too late, the Falcons were able to get within single digits of the Dons in the final minute.

However, the Dons hit all four of their free throws after that point and held on for the 11-point win. In the loss, Cerritos had four scorers in double digits led by sophomore Andrew Torres (Montebello HS/Humboldt State) with 13 points and four rebounds off the bench. Sophomores DeAnthony Roberts (Gahr HS/Cypress College) and Anthony Holliday (Norwalk HS) added 11 points apiece while sophomore Marquise Washington (Westchester HS/Cypress College) scored 10 points and pulled down a team-high nine rebounds for the Falcons. Santa Ana's Chase Miller finished as the leading scorer of the game with 19 points followed by Terryn Large with 15 points and Cammie Lewis with 14 points.
