Palomar Stays Perfect in PCAC with Gritty Road Win at Grossmont

EL CAJON, CA (1/15/2025) -- The Palomar College women's basketball team battled to a hard-fought 63-56 road victory over Grossmont College on Wednesday night, improving to 11-6 overall and 3-0 in Pacific Coast Athletic Conference (PCAC) play. The Comets used a strong first quarter and a balanced team effort to hold off the Griffins in a game marked by tenacious defense and clutch free-throw shooting.

Teanna Alaman led the way for Palomar with 16 points and six rebounds, dominating in the paint and making key plays down the stretch. Kylee Trujillo was a force from beyond the arc, knocking down four three-pointers en route to 14 points, while adding three assists and two steals. Kailani Flournoy chipped in with 12 points and a game-high 11 rebounds for her latest double-double.

Though the Comets started strong with a 25-14 lead after the first quarter, Grossmont closed the gap in the second to make it a competitive 39-31 game at halftime. Both teams struggled offensively in the third quarter, but Palomar maintained their composure, hitting 100% of their free throws for the game, including critical makes in the final minutes to seal the win.

Defensively, Palomar held Grossmont to just 29.2% shooting from the field and 19% from three-point range, forcing 12 turnovers. The Comets' rebounding efforts were pivotal, as they outrebounded the Griffins 47-50 and matched their second-chance points at 16 apiece.

Palomar's victory keeps them unbeaten in conference play as they prepare to host Southwestern College on Friday at 6 pm. With their momentum building, the Comets are determined to extend their winning streak and solidify their position atop the PCAC standings.
