Team Stats
The Panthers swept the three-game series against Cerro Coso last week, giving up only five runs across the 27 innings of play.
In game 1, Chaffey hosted Coso with a 6-0 shutout. Scoring began with a 2nd inning AJ (Armando) Hurtado single driving in two runs. Ryder Young followed up with a single run homer, his 2nd of the season. Yahir Ramirez and Jacob Billings also had 1 RBI hits. Scoring closed out with another RBI for Young, a sac fly to centerfield. Brock Mayer got his 3rd win of the season; Brian Garcia was on relief.
In game 2, Chaffey scored in the first inning off an Andrew "Tank" Rodriguez double, driving in PJ Torrez Jr. in the first inning. With bases loaded in the 2nd, Torrez was hit by pitch to bring in Ryan Melton. The 4th brought runs by Ramirez, Preston (David) Allen, Torrez and Rodriguez. After just four innings, Chaffey was up 6-1. That lead was expanded in the 7th off an unearned run by David Loera, a 2 RBI Young single, followed by a 3 RBI homer by Rodriguez. Joseph O'Regan took the win after five innings. The bullpen then sent in Joshua Verkuilen, Andres Pasillas, and Connor Feer. Final score 13-3.
In the final game of last week's series, Coso opened scoring for the first time taking advantage of a series of wild pitches by Donovann Jackson. By the third inning, Chaffey was again in the lead - a sac by Devean Alvarez started the flow, followed by Young and Torrez runs. In the 4th, Aaron Whobrey scored off a Young single and Hurtado scored courtesy of a Billings single. Billings and Young got their chances to cross the plate in the 5th and 6th as the Panthers led 9-2. A big 8th inning push by the Panthers took the score to 13-2. Jackson took the win after seven innings on the mound. James Rivera and Damian Hernandez were on relief.
The teams will face off a final time in the IEAC schedule, Saturday April 20th in Ridgecrest. Spectators for the away game are prohibited due to college construction.
