Cuesta's Men Take Down Rival Moorpark, 67-57

Cuesta Men's Basketball battled back from a five-point halftime deficit to hold their homecourt against visiting Moorpark, 67-57.   The Cougars trailed, 31-26, at the break and bounded out of halftime and quickly erased the Raiders five-point lead.   Cuesta scored 41 points in the second half, while the Raiders matched Cuesta's pedestrian first half output with only 26 points after the break.

In the first half, the Cougars' Star Center Alessandro Perotti picked up two quick fouls and spent most of the opening 20 minutes on the bench, but he exploded for 13 points after the intermission to post a team-high 17 points.  Cuesta Point Guard Lorenzo Ceffoli made up for the Cougars' lack of height in the paint and pulled down seven boards to tie Moorpark's Kenji Cooper for the game-high.  Ceffoli also added 14 points and a game-high three assists.  Cuesta also received double-digit scoring performances from Guards Shinichi Itoh and Corbin Rossi (pict-R), who added 14 and 10 points, respectively.  A big part of the Cougars' second half comeback was due to 2024 All-WSC Guard Stevie Waiters (pict-L).  Waiters came off the bench to ignite his team with seven points, five rebounds and a steal.  The victory moved the Cougars, currently ranked #27 in the State, to 12-6 on the season and an even 1-1 in the Western State Conference.

The Cougars shall resume their first swing through the WSC circuit this Saturday (3 PM) in Oxnard.  The host Condors are currently 9-4 overall and enjoying a resurgent season.  Last month, they beat the Cougars to win the Santa Barbara City Tournament and are currently one victory away from reaching double-digit wins for the first time since 2016.
