
#16 Women's Volleyball defeats #9 Pasadena and #8 Mt Sac on their way to a 2-1 week
Going into the week, the Women's Volleyball team had their hands full with #9 Pasadena City and #8 Mt Sac waiting in the wings for them.
In the week's opening match against Pasadena City, the Raiders took the first two games, 27-25 and 25-17, and it was looking like an eye opening sweep of the #9 Lancers. Game three turned into the battle of who wanted it more. The Raiders went out to a 6-4 lead. Pasadena scored four straight and made it 8-7, Lancers. The Raiders fought back to tie it at 10-10, but Pasadena went on another 4 point run to take a 14-10 lead. Not to out done, the Raiders made a four point run of their to tie it at 15-15. At that point it was a back and forth battle. The Raiders had set and match point twice, but a service and a Lancer ace gave Pasadena the win, 27-25.
In game four, the Raiders never trailed Pasadena but at the same time they could not put the Lancers away. Just like game 3, the Raiders had set and match point twice and just like game 3, two hitting errors by the Raiders along with a Pasadena kill gave game 4 to the Lancers, 27-25.
With Pasadena smelling the reverse sweep, the Raiders took control of game 5 going out to scoresof 6-1, 9-4, it was just a matter of time before the Raiders finished off the Lancers with a 15-10 score. Abby Montana had 19 Kills, Alesia Thomas had 17 kills with 13 digs and Grace Hazelton added 12 kills with 14 digs. Gabby Shirado had 50 assists.
In match two of the week, at the Mt Sac Tri-event, the Raiders dropped a four gamer to Grossmont, 25-27, 24-26, 25-17, and 22-25. Alesia Thomas had 26 kills, Gabby Shirado had 40 assists and 10 digs, Prior Borick had 18 digs, Grace Hazelton had 17 kills and 17 digs.
In the final match of the week, the Raiders left no doubt when sweeping #8 Mt Sac, 25-23, 25-18, and 25-16.
The #16 Raiders are now 5-2 on the season and will host Cerritos, Wednesday, 9/11 at 6p and come back to host El Camino, Friday, 9/13 at 6p.
