SBVC Uses Early Start to Roll Past Rams

Playing its second game in less than 24 hours, the San Bernardino Valley College women's soccer team was looking to get off to a quick start Tuesday afternoon against Victor Valley College.

They got it.

The Wolverines scored on their first two shots on goal, then added three goals in the second half to post a 5-0 victory inside SBVC Stadium.

Audri Galindo opened the scoring in the sixth minute, taking a backward pass from Arleth Torres, and blasted a shot from about 30 yards out that fell through goalkeeper Monique Alvarez's arms and into the net. About a minute later, Torres set up Alondra Ruiz to give the Wolverines a 2-0 lead in the eighth minute.

The field continued to be tilted, as SBVC fired 24 shots toward the Victor Valley goal in the first half - eight of them on goal - as Alvarez was up to the task to send the game to the second half at 2-0. The Wolverines ended the game outshooting Victor Valley 36-0, with Alvarez ending with 12 saves. SBVC earned seven corner kicks to none for the Rams.

SBVC added to the lead in the 57th minute, as Melanie Valadez finished a pass from Kaitlyn Ruiz to make it 3-0. Clarissa Santiago made it 4-0, poking home a loose ball after a rebound in the box off a corner kick. And Dianna Callejo closed the scoring in the final minute, converting a rebound of a Asoralesi Rizo shot.

The Wolverines will finish their three-game week with a game at Mt. San Jacinto at 4 p.m. Friday.
