Siskiyous Women’s Soccer to Play Its First-Ever Postseason Game
A great season got even better for College of the Siskiyous' women's soccer, which is advancing to the NorCal playoffs for the first time in program history.
Add that to other firsts established by this year's team, including first winning season, first time being listed in the state rankings, and the career goal-scoring record set by freshman Brooklynn Wade, who is ranked second in state with 30.
The Eagles are one of four Golden Valley Conference teams to earn spots in the 2024 NorCal Regional playoff bracket. Seeded No. 19, Siskiyous will take a 12-3-3 record into its first round game at No. 14 Los Medanos on Wednesday, Nov. 20 at 7 p.m. The winner will advance to face No. 3 Sierra (12-2-6) on Saturday.
Los Medanos went 1-6-1 in pre-conference games before going 8-0 and winning the Bay Valley Conference championship.
The Eagles finished third in the GVC with a 5-3-2 record. Two of their three losses this season were against perennial conference champion Lake Tahoe (10-0, 17-1-2), the No. 1 seed in the NorCal Regionals. Also making the postseason bracket from a strong GVC are No. 15 Feather River (6-3-1, 12-6-2) and No. 23 Butte (5-4-1, 8-10-3).
Against common opponents, the Eagles had a 3-2-1 record, while Los Medanos was 2-2. The Eagles lost twice to Lake Tahoe, 0-10 and 0-8, while Los Medanos lost to Lake Tahoe, 0-9. The Eagles tied GVC foe Feather River, 1-1, and lost to Feather River, 0-1, while Los Medanos lost to Feather River 0-3. The Eagles beat Yuba twice, 5-0 and 6-0, while Los Medanos beat Yuba, 6-1. The Eagles beat Merritt, 6-0, and Feather River beat Merritt, 9-0.
Highlights of the Eagles' season include a 7-0-1 record in non-conference games, during which they had six shutouts and outscored opponents by a combined 37-3.
In mid-September, these Eagles earned a spot in the state's top 20 rankings for the first time since the Siskiyous soccer program began in 2017. They rose as high as No. 14 in late September and stayed on the list until dropping to No. 23 in late October.
It was a fast turn-around for the Eagle women, who won just 9 games overall in the past four seasons combined. And this year's 12 victories are twice as many as the program's last best win total, set by the 2018 team that finished 6-9-4.
