ABOUT GOLDEN WEST | The Rustlers got the 2024 season off to a good start last week with a 27-25 win at No. 17 Bakersfield College.

GWC led 24-13 in the third quarter after a one-yard touchdown run by Javon Taylor. Bakersfield rallied for a pair of fourth-quarter TDs, but a 32-yard field goal by Fernando Mancilla with 5:22 left in the contest proved to be the game-winner.

Freshman quarterback Will Burns put together a solid debut for the Rustlers as he completed 16 of 21 passes for 143 yards and a touchdown. Burns also proved to be a dual threat, running 8 times for a team-high 73 yards.

Brandon Soleau totaled 6 tackles and a sack to lead the GWC defense.

The Tigers racked up 565 yards of offense, led by quarterback Brady Jones. He completed 26 of 42 passes for 337 yards and a touchdown and also ran 6 times for 52 yards.

Devyne Pearson rushed for 3 touchdowns while Brandon McMasters also ran in for a pair of TDs.

Ja'wuan Nickson was a problem on defense for RCC with 6 tackles and 3 sacks.

LAST SEASON | In Riverside, the Rustlers suffered a 40-15 loss to the Tigers in Week 2. GWC quarterback Jordan Barton threw for 251 yards and a touchdown while also running in for a TD. Running back Bryce Strong broke through for a pair of touchdowns.
