Golden West Completes Comeback for Series Win

Huntington Beach, CA - Golden West softball (15-14, 9-9 OEC) take the series from the Santiago Canyon Hawks (10-25, 4-14 OEC), 6-3.

The Rustlers and Hawks met for the rubber match to conclude the three-game series. Golden West won the first game at home 8-4 but fell in extras at Santiago Canyon 3-4. The Hawks jumped ahead quickly in the final game as they put two runs in the first inning and one in the second frame, 0-3.

Golden West battled back however in the fourth as they scored two runs to come within one. Shelby Jacobsz pierced the ball through the right center gap for an RBI triple that scored Maya Magadaleno, 1-3. Allyssa Demayo followed with an RBI sacrifice fly out that allowed Jacobsz to hustle home, 2-3.

With bases loaded, Jacobsz stepped up to the plate in a huge opportunity. She came up clutch and smacked the ball to left field as the ball went under the defenders glove and rolled to the wall. All three runs scored as Jacobsz was waved home and slid safely into the plate to extend the lead, 6-3. The home team held on to close out the game with the three-run edge, 6-3.

Jacobsz had herself a day at the plate as she was responsible for five RBIs and two runs with her 2-3 day. A. Demayo earned the other RBI for the Rustlers with her sacrifice fly out. In the pitching circle, Natalie Tonche recovered incredibly well after the first two frames. She pitched a complete game and only allowed three runs and earned the victory. Golden West sits at fourth in the Orange Empire Conference as they took two of three from Santiago Canyon.

UP NEXT: The Rustlers will begin their final conference series of the season against Orange Coast College on Monday, April 22nd. First pitch from Golden West College will be at 2pm.
