SBVC Football looks for positives in loss to Mt. SAC, 40-0

SBVC (0-1) defensive front played well against their opponents, holding the Walnut Mt. San Antonio Mounties (1-0) run game to only 92 yards, but the SBVC offense struggled to keep their quarterback upright, as they surrendered 9 sacks in a season opening road loss, 40-0.

SBVC faced off with their opponents for the first time in the regular season in nearly 50 years as they took on the Mounties at Covina Valley District Field. In a match-up of two of the most historically successful Community College football programs, SBVC held their own against the Mounties, holding Mt. SAC to 19 yards rushing in the first half, and limiting the normally potent Mounties passing game to 133 yards.

Unfortunately, SBVC lost starting sophomore quarterback Jacob Rogers (Riverside Martin Luther King, Jr.) on the final drive of the first quarter when he was brought down on a tackle, twisting his ankle knocking him out of the game. This left SBVC with a significant change in game plan, as they tried to get the run game going, but went into the break with (minus) 36 rushing yards and only 90 passing yards.

SBVC's best chance to score came late in the second quarter, as they were presented with a 4th and 4 yards to go on the Mounties 12 yard line. After a Mt. San Antonio pass interference call, they were given a 1st and goal on the Mounties 5 yard line. Unfortunately, SBVC immediately committed a false start penalty, then proceeded to give up back–to-back sacks, the second of which, caused a quarterback fumble and ended the threat.
