In the third place game at College of the Canyons on Saturday, Oxnard defeated Barstow 78-61, securing their first win of the season. The Condors had a strong opening half, up by 18 points at the break, Oxnard's balanced scoring and strong shooting performance helped them secure the "W"
The game started with Barstow showing early resilience, keeping the score close in the beginning of the game. However, Oxnard's shooting efficiency — particularly from beyond the arc — allowed them to quickly gain a comfortable lead. Myles Allison led OC with an outstanding 25 points, including two three-pointers and 9-of-13 from the free-throw line. His all-around performance was a key factor in the team's success.
Oxnard shot 51.0% from the field and 41.2% from three-point range, making 7-of-17 from beyond the arc. The team also capitalized at the free-throw line, where they connected on 76.0% of their attempts (19-of-25). Barstow, while shooting 48.8% from the field, struggled to match Oxnard's pace, finishing the game with just 60.0% from the free-throw line.
Along with Allison's stellar performance, Daniel Ortiz added 13 points, including 5-of-11 shooting from the field. Luke Ortiz contributed 14 points and 7 rebounds, while Jacob Mora grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds, proving to be a dominant force on the boards.
Despite Barstow's efforts, including a strong showing from their bench players like Djavon Gomes (7 points, 6 rebounds), Oxnard's depth proved too much to overcome. The visiting team's bench outscored Barstow's 18-11, with key contributions from Jaden Reyes (8 points) and Jeremy Goodcase (5 points).
Oxnard (1-1) will look to build on this momentum as they prepare for their next matchup against some very talented alumni on November 14th, in the Nest from 5:00 pm.
