Cuesta Falls in the Battle of Cougars, 2-1

Cuesta Women's Soccer hosted the Taft Cougars for an early season, non-conference match and the visiting cats took the day, 2-1.  Taft opened the day's scoring by netting the first goal of the game just before the 20-minute mark.  The visiting Cougars' Dayana Martinez scored opener just 17 minutes into the contest off a pass from her teammate Melanie Mejia.  Taft held its lead until eight minutes into the second half, when Cuesta Sophomore Forward Shaylee Sargent found an open Oneal Hunt for the equalizer.  Once the game was evened up, Taft went on another an offensive tear.  The visitors took control of the contest and peppered Cuesta Goalie Allison Marble with 18 shots after the intermission.   Marble put on a clinic between the pipes with a career-high 15 saves, including 11 in the second half.  Unfortunately, Taft's Katelyn Moore also was able to score the eventual deciding goal with just over 20 minutes left in the contest and saddled Cuesta its first loss of the season, 2-1.  Cuesta is now 0-1-1 on the year.

Cuesta Women's Soccer continues its season opening homestand next Tuesday (4 PM), when Reedley visits SLO for a non-conference game.
