
Men's Basketball Opens Season with Win over Bakersfield, 84-63
SANTA MARIA, Calif. - The Allan Hancock College men's basketball team opened the 2024-25 campaign with an electric win over Bakersfield College, 84-63, inside of the Joe White Memorial Gymnasium on Monday evening. | BOX SCORE
After an opening back-and-forth showing, Hancock busted out a 15-1 run midway through the first frame and held on for a 16-point advantage at the intermission. They managed to hold off the hot-handed Renegades, who went 7-for-14 from distance in the second half, to secure the victory down the stretch. The home squad was dominant in the paint with a 55-30 advantage on the boards while outscoring BC in the paint by 22 points.
Sophomore Ay-Keen Richardson led the way as one of three individuals in double figures with an 18-point showing in the season debut. River Ortiz and Arlind Konjuhi followed with 16 and 13 points, respectively, while Noah Morris hauled in an impressive total of 15 rebounds on the night and added eight points. Ortiz also dished out a team-high of five assists while Mykel Valrie led the reserves with eight points off the bench.
The Bulldogs will continue the non-conference slate by competing in the annual Hinson's Tire Pros Winter Classic, hosted by Cuesta College, over the weekend. They'll open the two-day event with a showdown against College of the Sequoias on Saturday (Nov. 9) before closing things out on Sunday (Nov. 10) against Feather River College.
