Tommy Castillo picked up where he left off v. Cerritos College on Monday. The transfer sophomore centerfielder crushed two home runs as the Pasadena City College baseball team completed a series sweep over the Falcons, 10-4. The South Coast Conference game was a make-up from a rain postponement back on Mar. 11 at Cerritos.

Hitting in the eighth spot, Castillo, who was 3-for-4 with three RBI, homered to left to give PCC a 1-0 lead in the second inning. First baseman Jake Trabbie added a run-scoring double for a 2-0 advantage. Holding on to a 6-4 lead in the ninth, Castillo belted a 2-run bomb, also a pull shot over the LF fence. Trabbie added a RBI triple and designated hitter Jakob Guardado a RBI double to put the game away.

Castillo, mired in a 2-for-19 slump going into the game, enjoyed yet another big performance v. Cerritos. Including his two games v. the Falcons on Mar. 7 and 9, Castillo feasted on Cerritos pitchers by hitting 8-for-14 with two doubles, two triples, two HRs, three stolen bases and eight RBI in the series.

PCC (18-11 overall, 11-7 in SCC games) collected a season-high 14 walks by six of the nine Falcons pitchers used in the contest. Third baseman Toshiki Kuriya drew what is believed to be a Lancers single-game record with five walks while Trabbie took a hit-by-pitch for a team-high eighth time this year. Trabbie also picked up his state-leading eighth sacrifice fly in the seventh inning. Leftfielder Aryonis Harrison picked up his SCC-leading (fourth in the state) BB to give him 28 free passes drawn this season.

Winning starter Kyle Noell (3-1) hurled six innings, scattering nine hits, allowing no walks and striking out four batters. Rider Gardner tied two others for the state lead in saves with eight in pitching two innings of 2-hit, scoreless ball.

Shortstop Jack Esguerra, who had a bunt single, two walks and scored three runs, had another spectacular defensive gem. The freshman made a diving stop on a bal hit up the middle, then used a glove flip to second baseman Ivan Barragan, who received it with his bare right hand to complete, a game-ending 6-4-3 double play.

Coach Pat McGee's Lancers, now #20 in the most recent Southern California Regional Rankings, take a break from the SCC schedule with a stretch of five non-conference games from April 4-14, beginning by hosting SoCal #8-ranked Golden West College today at 2:30 p.m. at Brookside Park's Jackie Robinson Field.
