Men’s Basketball Cruises in Season Opener
The Santiago Canyon College men's basketball program kicked off its 2024-25 campaign on Thursday night against the Glendale College Vaqueros in the Santa Ana College tournament. The Hawks put together a dominating first half that put them up by 13 points and they never looked back, thus leading to a season-opening victory.
The Hawks' offensive outpour was evident from start to finish as they carted a three-point percentage just under 30 with seven different players finishing from long range. This complimented a 38 percent shooting mark from the floor that featured a pair of starters and one reserve landing in double-digits.
Sophomore guard Eli Arthurton paced the offense with 20 points, five rebounds, five assists and six steals. He made it to the line 10 times and hit seven of his opportunities, while draining a team-high three shots from beyond the arc.
Following suit was fellow sophomore guard Tony Colley. He finished with 16 points and was three boards shy of a double-double. He added a team-high two blocks, swiped three steals, dished out four assists and swatted away two shots.
Sophomore Trevor Manning, who has earned a starting role after being the sixth man last season, chipped in nine points and five rebounds. Sophomore EJ Bryson finished with eight points while adding a trio of steals, assists and rebounds.
Freshman big man Connor McKee led the bench in scoring with 10 points and seven rebounds. He also added three steals. Freshman Logan Jereczek bucketed seven points, while freshman Efe Gucoglu finished with five points.
