No. 21 Colts nearly knock off No. 1 Las Positas
REDWOOD CITY – No. 21 state-ranked Cañada College battled all the way to the final moments and came up just short in upsetting No. 1 Las Positas College on Friday night at home.
Jake Skaggs' put-back bucket as the shot clock expired with 10.2 seconds left in the second half gave the Colts a 77-76 lead. But Las Positas responded with the game-winning layup with 5.3 seconds remaining and was able to steal the ball on Cañada's final possession to escape with a 78-77 Coast Conference North Division win.
The Colts put together an outstanding team effort and got contributions from everyone that saw action. Skaggs had a huge game with a double-double of 17 points and 15 rebounds. Brylan Lundy led the Colts with 18 points to go along with 5 steals.
Justin Moore provided a spark off the bench with 11 points, 6 boards, and 3 assists. Logan Baltazar added 10 points, Darius Jackson posted 9 points with 7 assists, and Josiah Morris had 6 points and 8 rebounds. Ian Johns contributed 6 points.
On Wednesday, the Colts cruised to a 71-61 win at De Anza College. Skaggs led with 19 points and 9 rebounds while Jackson had 16 points. Lundy added 12 points and Moore totaled 10 points off the bench.
Cañada moved to 12-5 overall and 2-2 in the Coast North. The Colts are back in action on Wednesday (Jan. 22) when they travel to Skyline College for a Coast Conference North Division game.
