Men’s Basketball Wins Third Straight
The Santiago Canyon College men's basketball team traveled to MiraCosta College on Friday night for a non-conference matchup with the Spartans. Despite being outshot and outrebounded on paper, the Hawks showcased their grit and determination, securing their third consecutive victory with a 67-60 win.
It was a low-scoring game, but the Hawks' ball control and defensive pressure proved to be key factors. They forced the Spartans into 15 turnovers while committing just nine turnovers themselves.
MiraCosta, which relied heavily on its big men, outrebounded the Hawks by 12 boards and shot slightly better from the field. However, Santiago Canyon held a slight edge in three-point shooting, finishing at 34.6 percent from beyond the arc.
Four of the Hawks' starters scored in double figures, with the starting five accounting for 94 percent of the team's total points.
Sophomore Trevor Manning led the way with a season-high 20 points, shooting 8-for-12 from the floor and 4-for-5 from three-point range. Freshman EJ Bryson added 17 points and three assists, while sophomore Tony Colley contributed a double-double with 12 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, and two steals.
Freshman Colin Weems also had a standout performance, scoring a career-high 14 points, including a 3-for-5 mark from long range. He also added three rebounds and two assists.
