Irvine Valley's baseball team started its week off from Orange Empire Conference action with a home game against LA Harbor on Tuesday afternoon.
The Lasers scored a run in the bottom of the first and another in the bottom of the ninth, but it wasn't enough in a 3-2 loss to Harbor.
Irvine Valley's record went to 9-17 overall. LA Harbor improved to 11-17 overall.
After Harbor scored a run in the top of the first inning on an RBI single by Brandon Lepe, IVC answered with a run to tie the game in the bottom of the frame.
Freshman first baseman Jackson Snitko singled to score freshman leftfielder Drew Seidel.
But LA Harbor added a run in the top of the second inning and then another single run in the top of the fifth to take a 3-1 lead.
And it stayed that way until the bottom of the ninth when IVC sophomore shortstop Conner Hoskinson doubled to left center. He moved to third on a wild pitch and then scored on a RBI groundout by freshman second baseman Chase Quezada.
But Harbor closer Ryan Lopetegui got the third out of the inning to end the game.
Irvine Valley received solid outings on the mound. Freshman right-handed starter AJ Roettger went 7.2 solid innings. He gave up three runs on 10 hits with three strikeouts.
Sophomore righty Caden Byers relieved and went 1.1 scoreless innings and allowing just one hit and striking out three batters.
