The Irvine Valley women's basketball played an important game against Fullerton Friday night at home.
The teams were tied for second place in the Orange Empire Conference with a lot on the line.
But Fullerton was the better squad on Friday, coming away with a 60-48 victory.
Irvine Valley's record went to 11-10 overall and 3-2 in conference. The Hornets moved to 16-5 overall and 4-1 in the OEC.
The Lasers took an early lead a minute into the game before falling behind by eight points at the end of the quarter, battled back in the second period to make it a contest going into the half.
Fullerton won the first quarter, 17-9 and the Lasers rallied to tie it at 26 at the half.
Freshman guard Samantha Barnett led IVC in the second quarter with eight points.
But it was all Fullerton in the second half. The Hornets scored the first 11 points of the third quarter to take the lead for good.
Fullerton out-scored IVC, 20-6, in the quarter and took a 14-point lead heading into the final period.
Irvine Valley shot just 24.1 percent (14 of 58) from the field as a team. Fullerton shot 46.0 percent.
Barnett had 16 points, six rebounds and three steals for the game and freshman forward Alexis Price had 10 points and six rebounds for the Lasers.
Fullerton was paced by Hailey Lakey with 12 points, nine rebounds, three assists, two steals and three blocks, Erin Choi with 11 points, four rebounds and two steals and Kaylee Shimoda with 10 points.
Xochitl Hood also chipped in 14 rebounds, four assists and two blocks for the Hornets.
Irvine Valley plays again on Wednesday in a conference game at defending state champion Orange Coast at 5 p.m.
