Women's soccer team finds a goal late to get past East LA

It took a bit longer than expected, but the Irvine Valley women's soccer team came away with a 1-0 win over East Los Angeles at home on Tuesday.

The Lasers out-shot East LA, 32-3, but had to find a goal in the 90th minute to earn the victory.

With the win, Irvine Valley improved its record to 5-2-0 overall. The Huskies slipped to 0-5-1 overall.

IVC scored the game-winning goal late off of a header by sophomore forward Jordan Madison via a cross from the right side from freshman defender Lilliana Springer.

Irvine Valley had 11 shots in the first half and then 21 in the second half where they were constantly on East LA's side of the field.

Karen Chen Zhao ended with 15 saves for the Huskies.

Irvine Valley's freshman midfielder Megan Beal took five shots (two on goal) and Springer, freshman forward Kuuipo Laumatia, freshman midfielder Izzy Rodrigues, Madison and freshman forward Nikki MacDonald each took four shots for the Lasers.

Sophomore goalie Sydney Salamoff played all 90 minutes and recorded two saves.

The Lasers have the rest of the week off and start Orange Empire Conference play next Tuesday at Saddleback at 3 p.m.
