Irvine Valley's women's basketball team played a strong second half and came back for a 51-48 win over Ventura in the first game of the Ventura Crossover at the Athletic Event Center on Friday.
Irvine Valley trailed, 26-23, at the half, but out-scored the Pirates, 15-8, including a 11-0 run, in the third quarter to take control.
Freshman guard Samantha Barnett sank two free throws in the final seconds to seal things.
And IVC ended up holding the Pirates to just 28.1 percent from the field in the game to earn the win.
The Lasers improved their record to 7-8 overall. It was the second time that Irvine Valley has defeated Ventura this season.
Sophomore guard Moka Saiki led IVC with 18 points and five rebounds. She made four three-pointers.
Barnett added 17 points, nine rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks.
Freshman forward Alexis Price contributed 10 points and six rebounds and sophomore point guard Haruka Mikuma chipped in five assists.
Irvine Valley plays again tomorrow in the event against Glendale.
