CULVER CITY – West Los Angeles College women's basketball put on an absolute clinic Monday night, overpowering College of the Canyons in a resounding 101-28 victory. The Wildcats showcased their offensive firepower and defensive dominance from the opening tip, putting together a statement performance that reinforced their position in the conference.

The tone was set early as West LA's defensive intensity forced immediate turnovers, leading to quick transition buckets. Alana Young got the Wildcats on the board first with a strong drive to the rim off an assist from Kyana Davis, and from there, the floodgates opened. Karli Schwenke made her presence felt early, snagging a steal that led to another basket by Young. Kennedee Rankin checked in and immediately made an impact, converting on consecutive layups to stretch the early lead.

West LA suffocated Canyons defensively, allowing just five points in the first quarter. The Wildcats' relentless pressure resulted in multiple turnovers, and they capitalized on nearly every opportunity. Aliyah Young drilled a three-pointer off a feed from her sister Alana, pushing the lead to double digits. Rankin continued her dominance in the paint, grabbing offensive boards and converting second-chance points. By the time the first quarter came to a close, West LA had stormed out to a 21-5 lead.

If there was any doubt about the outcome, the Wildcats erased it in the second quarter with an offensive explosion. Moments later, Davis found Alana Young on the perimeter, and she knocked down her second three of the night. West LA's ball movement was crisp, and their rebounding advantage continued to grow.

The defensive effort remained suffocating, holding Canyons to just two points in the second quarter. Fama Diagne, providing a spark off the bench, controlled the interior with timely blocks and rebounds. The Wildcats' defensive rotations were seamless, and the combination of active hands and quick closeouts ensured that Canyons had no clean looks. The Wildcats entered halftime leading 53-7, putting together one of their most dominant halves of the season.

Coming out of the break, West LA showed no signs of slowing down. Rankin continued her dominant night, crashing the glass and punishing Canyons in the paint. The forward was nearly unstoppable, finishing with a game-high 35 points on an incredible 16-for-21 shooting while pulling down 14 rebounds. The Wildcats' bench unit got in on the action as well, with Diagne and Schwenke controlling the boards and contributing on both ends of the floor.

West LA's offense remained balanced, with multiple players making an impact. Alana Young finished with 15 points and five assists, while Aliyah Young added 19 points and nine rebounds, knocking down two triples in the process. Davis, despite a tough shooting night, showcased her playmaking ability with seven assists and seven rebounds, orchestrating the offense to perfection.

By the final quarter, West LA had extended their lead past the 70-point mark, continuing to put on a clinic in all facets of the game. Ferguson and Schwenke contributed timely baskets, while Diagne cleaned up the paint with efficient post work. The Wildcats out-rebounded Canyons 54-21 and finished the game shooting an efficient 55% from the field.
