Aguila’s Hat Trick Seals the Deal in Win Over Rustlers
A hat trick in a soccer match, or any sport that involves scoring goals, comes at a premium. Some players are lucky to ever score at the collegiate level, but sophomore Samantha Aguila carted a hot foot in a 4-0 in over Golden West on Friday afternoon. She buried three goals to help the Hawks soar past the Rustlers in conference action.
Aguila was the catalyst to a commanding victory over Golden West by scoring twice in the first half, backed by the fourth and final goal of the game late in the second half to bag a hat trick.
Her first two goals stemmed from corner kicks compliments of sophomore Jordyn Lamastra. Both my the way of a header, Aguila banged home two perfectly placed balls from Lamastra in the 20th minute and the 34th minute.
She added another score in the 73rd minute to complete the hat trick and add icing to the Hawk's cake. Lamastra ended with three assists as she complimented a goal from sophomore Alyssa Marino in the 44th minute to act as Santiago Canyon's third score of the contest.
Aguila led the team with seven shots while six landed on target. She nearly snagged her fourth goal of the game late in teh second half, but the Golden West goalkeeper's outstretched arms batted it wide.
Sophomore Scarlett Serpas nearly notched two scores with both of her attempts landing on target. She missed high on her first attempt and was denied on her second off a counter.
Sophomore Grayton Normand (4-1-1) was flawless between the pipes by corralling two saves and earning her fourth win. Freshman Anna Cowdell lifted her from the line with just 10 minutes to go. Cowdell saw time both in the field and in the box.
The backline that consisted of sophomore Madison Stottlemyer, sophomore Brisa Mariscal and freshman Beatriz Perez limited the Rustlers to four total shots.
