Women's basketball team falls in final seconds at Rio Hondo

The Irvine Valley women's basketball team was out-scored, 8-2, down the stretch and fell at Rio Hondo, 54-51, Wednesday night on the road.

The Lasers had their chances and held a 49-46 lead with 3:06 left in the contest after a basket by freshman forward Alexis Price, but the Roadrunners went on a run to end the contest.

Irvine Valley tied the game at 51 on two free throws by sophomore guard Moka Saiki with 2:13 to play.

But Rio Hondo won the game on a three-pointer by Alexia Valencia with eight seconds left in the contest.

IVC didn't get a shot off in the final seconds.

Irvine Valley's record went to 3-4 overall, while Rio Hondo improved to 4-4 overall.

For Irvine Valley, freshman guard Neryah Lokeni finished with 14 points, nine rebounds and four assists, Saiki added 12 points and three assists and Price had eight points and 11 rebounds.

The Lasers shot 37.0 percent from the field (20 of 54) and out-rebounded Rio Hondo, 35-34, on the night. 

Irvine Valley plays again on Friday when it takes part in the El Camino crossover event.

The Lasers take on Citrus at 5 p.m.
